Last year, many students of Deep Cove worked as Planet Protectors! Many Grade 2, 3, 4, and 5 students engaged in a campaign to ban plastic bags in Sidney! It all began with a beach clean up, which led to them taking further action in their community. The group started to collect data through surveys around stores in Sidney. Finally, they brought this information directly to the Sidney Municipality counsel in hopes of passing a bylaw to ban plastic bags.
Part of our BC Curriculum is to "advocate for and act to bring about positive change." Through this project they have done just that.
