Hello Deep Cove families!

I hope everyone is doing well during these strange days we’re experiencing.

We have a few items to catch everyone up on! Firstly, the PAC Executive Election, for the 2020-2021 school year, was held at the February PAC General meeting and the results are as follows:

President: Vacant

Treasurer: Vacant

Secretary: Nicole de Greef

Volunteer Coordinator: Sarah Kerrigan

Spirit Committee Coordinators: Aoy Broome and Steph Bowcott

COPACS Rep: Vacant

Christmas Fair Co-Coordinators: Vacant (2 positions) *Ashley Allen Silent Auction

Communications Coordinator: Sarah Kerrigan

Parent Education Coordinator: Jody Kary

Canadian Parents for French Rep: Tara Keeping

PAC Secretary Nicole de Greef, mentioned that as per the PAC Constitution, it is critical that we have a President, a Treasurer, and a Secretary each year otherwise the PAC must fold and any funds held will be distributed as per the Constitution and Bylaws.  Our Christmas Fair Coordinators are vital for the success of our fair. Outgoing coordinators, Jody Kary and Kara Westgate, are available to guide the new volunteers.

If you are interested in any vacant role, or would like to share a position, please contact deepcovepac@gmail.com. PAC Executive members strive to achieve a smooth transition between outgoing and new members and will be available to advise their replacement as needed.

As parents/guardians, you are automatically a voting member of the PAC. Volunteering in a role on the PAC Executive can be a rewarding and positive experience. So many great things happen at Deep Cove due to high levels of engagement and wonderful volunteers!

We do hope our meeting schedule will be back to normal, and in person, come September. The first PAC General meeting is set for Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 at 6:30pm.

In addition to the Election, a vote was held by parents present and the Special Funding Request (SRF) budget was raised from $25,000 to $30,000 for the 2020-2021 school year.

The SFR process usually starts in April with applications accepted up to three weeks before the meeting in May where parents vote on which items will be approved.  Due to school closures this process has been postponed and a new SFR schedule planned for September is as follows:

  • September 8,2020

Window for SFR applications opens. Application will be available on the PAC page of the Deep Cove School website and the school office.

  • October 2, 2020

Window for SFR applications closes

  • October 2-6, 2020

A planning meeting between school administrators and PAC Executive take place to review applications.

  • October 7, 2020 (at the latest)

Draft SFR budget publicly posted

  • October 21, 2020

SFR Budget meeting 6:30pm at Deep Cove Elementary School.

Lastly, I want to say "Thank you" to the parents who attended the Special Vote Meeting on May 5th. The vote resulted in $5,000 of previously approved, unspent funds (due to school closures) being redirected as a donation on behalf of Deep Cove families to the coordinated efforts of CoPACS and School District 63. The funds will aid families within our school district who are finding themselves needing a little extra help during these unprecedented times.

If you need support during this time please contact shardcastle@saanichschools.ca, email your child's teacher, or contact the PAC, in confidence, via deepcovepac@gmail.com

Thank you and hang in there!
