Deep Cove Duckling Report #2 Friday April 15th

Our Duckling reporter has once again been interviewing students after their recent visit to turn the eggs.

duckling

According to Ryan, ( who will probably name one of the ducklings Bob) The eggs need to be turned twice a day, the eggs get darker which helps them to survive better in the wild. Whenever they flip the eggs, they are sprayed with water so it is easier to peck out. The ducklings grow things at the tip of their beak. When the ducklings hatch Mrs manning will put them in a crate. They have to get oil on them so that they can swim.

Nico thinks that when the ducklings are about to leave they will be about 14cm. At about 16 days ducklings will be formed.

Hayley noticed that the eggs have X's on them.

Sussy told us that Mrs Richards and Mrs Franceschini held eggs. When the ducklings are hatching, they sometimes get stuck, so Mrs Manning has to crack the egg open. They put two buckets in the crate with the hatched ducklings, Right after they hatch, they are put under a blanket. Every grade gets to see them, the shells are about 1mm thick and they look like boiled eggs. Mrs Manning's class get to hold them and they get their pictures taken.
